What is it like working for 6+ years as a creative professional and building a team that helps people launch their blogging career? Find out in this interview I just published with best-selling author of The Art of Work Jeff Goins.
In case you’ve never heard the name Jeff Goins, let me fill you in. Sometime around 2010, Jeff started a blog. It wasn’t his first blog, but it’s the one that started his amazingly fast-paced success. With the goal of only 250 subscribers in the first two years (very doable), Jeff set out to help others learn to write well, specifically in the blogging world. So inception-esque, he started a blog about blogging.
Within 18 months, he had around 30,000 subscribers, far exceeding his goal of 250. He also had launched a course on blogging that exceeded his expectations as much as his subscriber count. How did he do it? Watch the interview.
My key takeaways from Jeff:
Wake Up and Do the Work
Jeff wrote more than one blog post of about 500 words or more a day. To do that, he got up at 5:00 a.m. and wrote. No big secret there, except to just do the work.
Trust a Process
Jeff says it doesn’t matter what differences you have in your situation, writers need a process and there is a proven that shares a lot of common traits for all of them.
Take Care of Yourself
Jeff exercises his discipline muscle every day through taking time for himself to exercise his body and brain.
Be Deliberate With Your Time
Jeff’s system has evolved into separating days into focused tasks. Lucky for me Thursdays are interview days.
Jeff has taught thousands of people to write through his course, Tribe Writers. He only launches it twice a year and it’s open now. Head over there to check it out. I can say from first-hand experience, it’s worth every penny.
Jeff is also about to publish his fifth book titled Real Artists Don’t Starve. It’s very much in line with the interview in helping people learn to live a creative lifestyle that leads to a career. You can get an idea about what it’s going to be like here.
