If you make videos using your iPhone, this post is for you. Did you know you can mirror your iPhone on your computer without buying extra software? Well, it’s not only possible, it’s easy.
Let me break down a conversation I had with a client recently. This person wanted to start making videos for her brand. Good idea, right?! She doesn’t have a fancy DSLR or dedicated camera, so she’s using her iPhone. But here’s the problem, she was using the front facing camera (the one with the screen) instead of the rear facing camera.
The front facing camera on iPhones is just not as good. For the iPhone 7, the front facing camera is 7 megapixels as opposed to the rear facing one at 12 megapixels. It’s almost half the resolution. The iPhone 6s’ front facing camera is only 5 megapixels. So you can up the quality of your videos easily just by using the rear facing camera.
Sounds good, right?! But most people want to see themselves as they record, or at least, they want to make sure they are framed right before the record. It’s always a good idea to make sure you’re framed right in your shot.
iPhone Mirroring the Wrong Way
I have seen some of the craziest set-ups from people trying to solve this problem. The funniest was someone using a CD case and a mirror. Here’s a similar setup.
Crazy, right? People will also pay lots of money for a special monitor and software to make this happen. It’s a good thing your reading this and getting the know-how, right? Who wants to waste time and money trying to make all this work when there’s an easy option?
iPhone Mirroring the Right Way
The easiest way to mirror your iPhone on another screen is to simply use Quicktime. All you have to do is plug your iPhone into your computer, open Quicktime and select “New Movie Recording.” Then in the recording screen, click the down arrow next to the red record button and select your iPhone.
That’s it! Boom! Instant screen mirroring. It’s so easy.
